How many motor home dealers are there in the UK?

Currently, there are 5 main dealers who are authorised to sell American motorhomes with full warranties, with many more selling the European versions..

What is a grey import?

This term was originally used by the car industry and refers to a vehicle not imported by a main agent and is usually imported by a private individual from a dealer abroad.  These imports often do not have the correct conversions and will have no factory warranty.

What is the first implication of buying a grey import?

The major factor is the conversion work, as these vehicles are destined for the US market and require a fair amount of work to convert them to UK standards.

2nd implication.

This is the warranty, as a grey import will not have one.

3rd implication.

Finally, protection of your investment.  Authorised dealers sell vehicles with full conversions and warranties, and, these retain their resell value.

What minimum standards do dealers work to?

Dealers work to a code of practice and staff are all fully trained.  All conversion work conforms to British Standards and consumers are fully protected by UK consumer law.

How often do RVs need servicing?

They require an annual service.

What is a marine toilet?

This type of toilet has a fixed holding tank on board the RV.

What are the benefits of this?

The physical size of the tank is 35 gallons as opposed to a 5 gallon cassette used by European motorhomes, makes them more convenient to use, basically you can go for much longer without needing to look for some emptying point.

Scale and convenience covers the water supply too.

Tank sizes are bigger on American RVs for water, fuel and waste disposal.  Pusher tank sizes are approximately double that of a puller.

What is domestic LPG used for?

There is a fixed tank on board for the LPG, which is used for heating, cooking and running the fridge freezer.
